During the spring the oncological clinic at UAS will evaluate RealQ Breast Cancer in regard to the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, this under the direction of chief physician and director of breast cancer Henrik Lindman. The first interim report will be published/made public in connection with SOF’s (Swedish Oncology Association) spring meeting in the middle of March 2009. Clinics need a decision support tool for doctors in their everyday work which also gathers key data in regard to the treatment of cancer patients in a database connected to the clinic.

The clinic will also offer its patients the opportunity to enter side-effects digitially prior to their doctor’s visit, something which decreases administration and makes the patient meeting more efficient for the doctor. Parallel to the evaluation from the clinic two academic papers have been planned to validate and document the project. A student from the institution for societal pharmacy at Uppsala University shall focus on the doctor and nurse perspective from a validity point of view, possibilities for pharmaceutical-specific reports as well as user-friendliness. A nursing student taking the specialist oncology stream shall primarily evaluate the process and the results from the side-effects reported by patients.

Health Solutions has participated in a public tender for decision-making tools in transplantation healthcare services at Karolinska University Hospital and Uppsala University Hospital. The other companies submitting a tender were MedSciNet, Karolinska’s internal IT department, Avensia, Alfa and Omegapoint.

In the evaluations carried out of the various systems Health Solutions RealQ solution was a clear winner, with a points total approaching the maximum amount possible to have. However, one of the tenders submitted by another was cheaper, although of worse quality according to the evaluations group. For this reason the project was awarded to another supplier.

In a number of installations Health Solutions has demonstrated clear value within healthcare for the clients who have chosen RealQ. We are convinced that the solution which is best is also the most economical in the long run.

Health Solutions wins the 2008 IT in Healthcare prize!

Health Solutions is this year’s winner of the 2008 IT in Healthcare prize. The prize is awarded by Dagens Medicin and Computer Sweden and since its inception in 1998 has turned into the most prestigious award within IT and healthcare in Sweden. We are of course incredibly proud and delighted to receive the award. The jury’s motivation was:

Health Solutions has made it to the final round of the 2008 Healthcare Information Technology Awards in the category ‘National Healthcare Assistance and Cooperation Across Healthcare Borders.’ We were awarded the nomination for RealQ®, our platform for healthcare quality control and decision support. The award, given by Dagens Medicin, has become the most prestigious award in the realm of healthcare IT. The quote from the headline belongs to Lars Gatenbeck, the chairman of the jury. Naturally, we are extremely pleased to be going on to the finals in a year like this one.

Health Solutions has been developing the RealQ® platform since 2000. The concept is based on experience with over 60 projects within the healthcare sector and the pharmaceuticals industry, both in Sweden and abroad.

We are thrilled, but not surprised, by our place in the finals, because we have seen for many years the way RealQ® benefits Swedish healthcare with applications such as InfCare HIV.

DN cites a study today which was recently published in the well-respected journal Archives of Internal Medicine. One of the observations made is:

“For people who want to remain on their current weight telephone support is as effective as personal meetings”

Three different ways of coaching people who wanted to decrease their weight were compared in the study: one group received telephone coaching, another group newsletters and a third group personal meetings. At the end of the study the group who had received telephone calls had lost most weight, on average nine kilos after one year.

This matches well with what we see everyday. The Health Solutions model means that we use all of the media to hand and tailor a program to each individual. We use the phone, letters, e-mails and SMS and the results we see every day are well represented by the results gained from the study.
