Health Through Data

Swedish needle and syringe programme (NSP)

The Swedish needle and syringe programme (NSP) is a social service that allows injecting drug users to receive sterile syringes, needles and injection tools, in the purpose to primarily prevent the spread of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection, HIV infection as well as offer the injecting drug users the opportunity to test for other infections, get the advice and the opportunity to vaccinate. InfCare NSP was founded in 2014 and is a tailored decision support system and quality registry to be able to keep track of various data for the Swedish needle and syringe programme (NSP).

At each patient visit, clinical staff fill in various data forms, depending on the type of visit is due according to the system. InfCare NSP has a patient overview where clinical staff quickly can gain an idea of the patient’s condition, which tests/vaccines are due, the patients current/cleared infections, drugs and treatments. In addition to patient healthcare, clinicians also track through InfCare NSP the number of needles/syringes that have been exchanged by individuals, clinical level and sometimes a regional level. Other parts of InfCare NSP are Realtime statistics to follow Dailey and weekly data and reports.
